Books good for children’s health

I came across a fascinating bit of information this week. The doctors in the emergency room of an English hospital noticed that they were having an unusually quiet weekend. They suggested that one of their number take some time off to spend with his kids. “No point’, he said “They’re totally immersed in the new Harry Potter book”. Interesting! So they checked the weekend when the previous Harry Potter came out. Lo and behold, on both weekends (HP 5 and HP 6) visits by children to the emergency department were down by 47%!

It’s good to know that not only are books entertaining, informative and imaginative, they are also good for children’s health!
