Each year independent booksellers around Australia vote for and contribute the prize money towards The Indies Book of the Year, showing their strong committment to promoting Australian literature.
Previous winners include Breath -Tim Winton, Jasper Jones – Craig Silvey and The Happiest Refugee – Anh Do.
With so many wonderful Australian books being published each year it can be a very difficult choice. From the many titles nominated shortlists are generated in four categories; Fiction, Non-fiction, Debut fiction and Children’s. A winner from each category then become the finalists and the Australia wide vote takes place. I always feel happy about the book I vote for but guilty about the excellent books I don’t vote for!
The category winners this year were; The Street Sweeper – Elliot Perlman, Worst Things Happen at Sea – William McInnes, All That I Am – Anna Funder and The Little Refugee – Anh and Suzanne Do.
AND THE WINNER IS All That I Am. CONGRATULATIONS Anna Funder!
Thanks for sharing the news about this, I think you’ve scooped everybody!
Thanks Lisa!
